Zion National Park – Utah | Barge Photography

Zion National Park | Barge Photography

From our vacation last week to Zion National Park. What awesome landscape there is to see there. We hiked every trail on our to-do list, except the one we most wanted to do – the “Narrows”.  Due to the recent warm weather, the mountain snow melt was too much and the river walk trail was closed due to the flow rate being above 150 cfs:(But the rest of the trails and scenery was just awesome. We will be going back to Utah in the future to see the other 4 National Parks they have there!

This Double Arch Alcove was at the end of the Taylor Creek Trail in Kolob Canyons area of Zion National Park. This 5+ mile trail was awesome with 2 log cabins miles into the hike (photos below) and 53 creek crossings! And then you come to this awesome Double Arch Alcove. You can see just how huge this alcove is if you can find Tina standing below:)

Court of the Patriarchs – Zion National Park | Named for three towering figures of the Old Testament, these sandstone cliffs hold court over Birch Creek Canyon and this section of the Virgin River. In 1916 Frederick Vining Fisher, a Methodist minister, gave the religious names to the peaks. Today it is not hard to imagine how the grandeur of this view could inspire such reverence.

Canyon Overlook – Zion National Park | This was my favorite picture with the car lights illuminating the winding road. Almost looks like lava.  And the hike back in the dark was awesome!

Grafton Ghost Town – Although Grafton is a ghost town, its once-thriving community spirit lives on. Its soul lives as one beholds green pastures and imagines settlers working the fields and crafting these buildings within this land’s striking beauty. Grafton returns us to a time when life was tenuous but strengthened by residents who relied on religious faith and each other to survive. Such communities, then and now, instill a sense of belonging to place. This connection between people and landscape lives today through many of Grafton’s descendants.
